Dependency Advocacy Center Receives 2018 LACY Honors Award

On November 9, 2018, Dependency Advocacy Center proudly received the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley’s 2018 LACY Honors award for our family defense work on behalf of underserved parents and children in Santa Clara County.

“In addition to its family defense work, DAC collaborates with the Law Foundation, the courts, child welfare, and many other partners.  They provide a powerful voice focusing all of us on the importance of our system healing individuals in a way that guarantees long-term stability for children and their families … The Law Foundation applauds DAC for its tireless advocacy and for being a valued partner in the continued fight to keep Santa Clara County as a model for dependency courts across the country.”

DAC celebrates its 10th Anniversary!

We are grateful for the privilege of providing 10 years of family defense advocacy for underserved parents and children in Santa Clara County’s child welfare system.  On October 25th, we celebrated this milestone with a sold out event at the Hotel De Anza, where we honored DAC’s 2018 Outstanding Parent Alyssa Lopez and DAC’s 2018 Distinguished Advocate Probation Chief Laura Garnette!  Thank you to the many attendees, supporters, and sponsors who contributed to the evening’s success.  We couldn’t have done it without you!

8th Annual Family Reunification Day in Santa Clara County

Santa Clara County was one of many jurisdictions across the country that held events this Spring in recognition of National Family Reunification Day. The goal of this celebration is to acknowledge families and communities coming together and to raise awareness about the importance of family reunification to children in foster care. This year, our Board of Supervisors proclaimed Wednesday, May 30, 2018 as Santa Clara County’s 8th Family Reunification Day.

At a festive event held at the Social Services Agency Auditorium, commendations from the County were given to six dedicated parents whose extraordinary efforts allowed them to safely and successfully reunify with their children.   A commendation was also given to two community partners, Maria Gil and Jara McDonough, who have both made vital contributions to the reunification and strengthening of our dependency court families.
